SARASOTA - John Thomas “Curly” Close 69, of Lower Burrell, formerly of Cheswick, and Sarasota, FL., passed away at home in Lower Burrell on 9/12/23, after a car accident in April in Sarasota, FL where he had been residing since 2007.

He was born 2/6/1954 and was a graduate of Springdale High School (1972) and Edinboro University (1976). Tom was an extraordin­ary soccer player throughout both high school and college. He was a Second Lieutenant Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He enjoyed his most recent job as a security guard at Misty Creek Community of Homes, where his gift of gab made him and the residents “Family”. He was very loved, supported, and cared for by them-and he loved them.

Survivors include his mother Shirley Close and sister Danielle (Paul) Orsino of Florida, two daughters Madison (Tyler) Miller and Sierra Close of Lower Burrell. Also surviving are his beloved grandchild­ren Carmella Riccelli and Ozzy Miller, his nephews Christophe­r Mamros and Robert Williams and nieces Jessica Mamros and Kayleigh Petramale. Tom is also survived by his life long friends of Springdale and his ex-wife Beverly (Pavillian) Close, with whom he resided until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his father Warren G. Close and sister Tracy Connolly.
