- Sarasota Herald-Tribune

Nautilus Homes, a luxury builder based in Sarasota, has received five awards from the National Association of Home Builders in recognition of its work on Island Breeze, a 6,100-squarefoot residence on Siesta Key that balances style, craftsmanship, sustainability and low maintenance.

The accolades were presented at the NAHB Nationals Awards and Best in American Living Awards during the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas Feb. 28-29. These national awards spotlight creativity and talent in the building industry and honor professionals for excellence in homebuilding across the United States and Canada.

Nautilus Homes secured the coveted BALA Platinum Award for Best Custom Home priced over $2 million. Island Breeze’s cabana received another platinum award for Specialty Room/Project in a custom home priced over $2 million.

The home also won a Gold Best Kitchen in a custom home priced over $2 million and silver Best Single-Family Custom Home within the category of 6,000 to 8,000 square feet for the NAHB Nationals Awards.

In addition, the team received a fifth bonus award the night of the awards for Best Room Overall.

Ryan Perrone, co-founder and president of Nautilus Homes, said the design of Island Breeze draws inspiration from the Abaco Islands and fuses historical elegance with modern simplicity.

The Zobrist Design Group served as the principal architectural firm for the project, collaborating with Jett Thompson Interiors, which provided its expertise for interior design.

A better way to treat A-fib at SMH

Sarasota Memorial Hospital physicians are among the first in the nation performing pulsed field ablation, a breakthrough therapy to treat people with atrial fibrillation, or irregular heart rhythms.

Sarasota electrophysiologists Drs. Antonio Moretta and Smriti Banthia performed the first four procedures at SMH-Sarasota recently using Medtronic’s PulseSelect system, the first PFA device approved for commercial use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of patients with paroxysmal (periodic) or persistent atrial fibrillation.

Traditionally, catheter ablation is a technique in which heart tissue is treated with extreme heat (radiofrequency ablation) or cold (cryotherapy) to destroy the tissue triggering A-fib.

The breakthrough PFA delivers fast, controlled electrical pulses through a cardiac ablation catheter to achieve the same therapeutic effect on the heart tissue.

Studies suggest it could become a safer alternative to traditional catheter ablation because PFA does not use heat or freezing temperatures, which may reduce the risk of scarring to adjacent, healthy tissue.
