How bah, humbug is it if you refuse to let your cat play with gift wrap?
Despite the fact that they tend to act aloof, most felines have zero chill when it comes to wrapping paper—and it’s fine to let them have at it. “My cats love when I ball the paper up into a pile for them to dive into and bat around,” says Michelle Meyer, D.V.M., a veterinarian in Sterling Heights, MI, and president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. “The stuff you have to be careful about is ribbon, tinsel, and tags with strings.” When a cat swallows something long and thin and it ends up stuck around their tongue or in their stomach, it may lead to a potentially lifethreatening condition requiring surgery. Brown paper packages, yes; tied up with string, no.
