Kalani tops Seabury in OT, faces St. Francis for D-II title
The Kalani Falcons couldn’t miss in overtime — hitting a trey and all 10 free throws — in defeating the Seabury Hall Spartans 56-46 in a state boys basketball Division II semifinal at Kalani gym on Thursday.
Trey Sumida, who scored a team-high 17 points, including four 3-pointers, opened the extra period with two free throws. He then hit a 3 for a 48-43 lead. From there, it was a parade to the charity stripe for the Falcons. Micah Kawano went 6-for-6 and Toby Mitchell 2-for-2 to close out the victory.
Peter Konohia had 13 points to lead Seabury Hall. Cameron Hanisch’s 3-pointer with 1:20 left in regulation tied the score at 43 and sent the game into overtime.
Kalani faces St. Francis for the D-II title at 5 p.m. today at the Stan Sheriff Center.
St. Francis 78, Honokaa 50
Kameron Ng scored a game-high 24 points, and added six assists and six steals, leading the Saints over the Dragons and into the Division II championship.
St. Francis was hot from long range, knocking down 10 of 18 3-pointers.
