Tackle the Trail

Just as you watch the rider in front of you to learn the best place to step to navigate a trail, your horse will watch you for clues. Keep this in mind as you lead him.

Pack your trail halter and whip or stick. Practice leading your horse the same way you did at home, no matter what terrain you get into. On narrow trails, remind him to give you space. Send him over obstacles using the same cues you used at home.
