MONTANA A

Hot Rod Deluxe - - Roddin’ Scene -

MONTANA A: Three peculiarities pulled us into this rough-’n’-ready Model A: a Montana plate, the passengerside patch panel, and a severely set-back Chrysler 440 Six Pack. Luckily for Mike Sims, his legs are short enough to make a drive from Missoula bearable. In 1974, he paid $75 for the ’30 body and $200 for a salvage engine and Torqueflite from a flipped, pancaked ’70 Charger. The ’28 frame was free, plucked amongst junk cars stacked against a Helena river bank as “rip wrap.” AT&T’S original ownership of the service coupe explained the large opening for a pull-out tool tray (and interior traces of At&t-green paint).
