Have You Seen This Coupe?
Before I joined the USAF, I caught the Deuce coupe bug. A friend found out about a fivewindow coupe for sale, and off we went to take a peek. It was chopped already and had a ’32 frame and not much else. I bought it and then parked the pieces under another friend’s shed for years. I knew I had bitten off too much but didn’t want to sell it. Hope springs eternal, you know.
I wound up at Tinker AFB, and the guy running the Hobby Shop had had one of his cars on the cover of HOT ROD a few years earlier. He talked me into bringing the coupe up there and he would assist me. Well, I got orders to Okinawa, so he tackled the frame, rearend, and parts gathering for me. I got back from Okinawa and put it in my dad’s shop where it sat while I waited to retire. Just a few months before I retired, it was stolen.
I still have hope that someone will see a picture of my project and let me know something. The moral of this story is don’t let projects sit around. They might just disappear on you.

The incident reports Tsgt. Rumage forwarded to us were dated 2001/2002. He told us, “Yes, it’s been a while, but I am still sore about the car.” We will forward any leads to him.
