HALL OF FAME FOR TURBINATOR II
The same Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame ceremony that honored Danny Thompson and Challenger 2 also inducted Team Vesco and the Turbinator II for their history-making runs at Bonneville in 2018. Turbinator II with pilot Dave Spangler became the first wheel-driven car to break the 500-mph barrier when it was clocked at 503.332 in October. That was the car’s exit speed after it logged 493.037 mph in the flying mile. Rick Vesco, the car’s owner and builder, is shooting for an official record of over 500 mph when the racing season gets underway this summer.
