NEW AL SLONAKER AWARD REVEALED
Organizers of the Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS) announced earlier this year there will be changes to the Al Slonaker Memorial Award starting with the 2020 edition of the show, and they recently released this rendering of the award’s new trophy.
The goal is to elevate the Slonaker Award, named for show founders Al and Mary Slonaker and presented to the best non-roadster at the show, to the same stature as the iconic America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award. Automotive designer Eric Brockmeyer penned the trophy’s design, and the perpetual award will be presented by show sponsor ARP. The trophy, which stands 54 inches tall, will be kept at ARP’S facility in Santa Paula, California, while a smaller version will be given to each winner to keep. ARP will also provide a $12,500 cash prize to the award winner.
