Hot Rod - - Roddin’@random -

November 1958 (100 pages, 35¢): Front-driven GMC blowers were still state of the art, as illustrated by a big-inch Chevy for the time: a stock-bore 283 whose half-inch-stroker arm expanded displacement to a whopping 328 cubes for partners Ron Hier and Hank Bender. Our Bonneville coverage brought many readers their first news of Mickey Thompson’s fortuitous detour en route to the NHRA Nationals. Instead of continuing east to Oklahoma City, M/T and his dual-engined dragster became America’s fastest driver and car at 294 mph (record average: 266.866).
