Former gymnast/ cheerleader shines as Bernstein Realty agent

- By Jude Patronella

John Torres was born and raised in Houston— a city that beats all cities as far as he is concerned— being very proud of what he accomplished growing up and now as an adult working as a Realtor associated with Bernstein Realty.

“I’mkind of what they call a Renaissance person. In high school, I studied gymnastics and in the process I started coaching floor gymnastics and cheerleading,” said Torres, who was a cheerleader at Eisenhower High School, where he graduated and went on to the University of Houston and became a cheerleader on the varsity squad and competed in the National Cheer Program.

His excellence in cheerleading led Torres to accept a job teaching gymnastics as well as coaching for the Universal Cheering Association. Torres also began amodeling and acting career, featuring him magazines and television commercials.

As a young adult, Torres became acquainted with Houston’s close- in areas and was amazed by the culture and art movement of the city as well as the excitement of being in such an eclectic area.

Before long he moved into one of the numerous four- plex apartment buildings near downtown. He took on the challenge of personally revitalizing his apartment and began to find apartments for his friends and help them to revitalize their rentals. Torres said the landlord increased the rent for future tenants an additional $ 150 when he moved elsewhere.

Torres had a friend that had become a Realtor and recognized Torres’ potential in real estate and convinced him to get a license. It has been 12 years since Torres became licensed to sell real estate and during those years a lot of success has transpired.

He started working as an assistant for a top producing Realtor and learned the business.

Torres gotmarried and had twin sons and a daughter. He moved to west Houston and began selling residential properties in the Katy and west Houston areas. In addition, Torres continued to sell properties inside Loop 610 and other parts of the city, which enhances his work with relocation clients.

“I was watching Houston grow westward, and when I saw that trend, I knew it would be a great area for me to specialize inmy real estate practice. Katy is like a bubble with great new and resale properties, excellent schools and located on the edge of the Energy Corridor. It’s a great and popular location for relocation clients,” said Torres, who now lives back in the inner city, continuing to specialize in Houston’s close- in neighborhoods and in the west Houston and Katy area.

“Since the beginning ofmy real estate practice I worked for several real estate companies, and when Imet Amy Bernstein, I knew immediately I wanted to work with Bernstein Realty. I joined the company four years ago and I’ve never enjoyed a company somuch. Itsmarketing and relocation departments are incredible and so efficient. And Amy is very driven, knows how tomeet goals and how to make things happen. I have the support and encouragement to stand onmy own two feet and offer my clients the best service possible.”
