Red alert: Orange suffer 2nd straight home loss

-

Even if there were about 4,000 empty seats in the announced sellout at BBVA Compass Stadium, the fans deserved a better performance than what they saw Saturday night.

First and foremost, the Dynamo were far below their standards while losing 2-0 to the New England Revolution, who didn’t cover themselves in glory either.

“Very disappointed with the way we played tonight,” Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear said after both clubs played the final 50 minutes with 10 men because center back Bobby Boswell and New England’s Dimitry Imbongo drew red cards for Boswell’s head-butt and Imbongo’s retaliatory strike to the face in the 38th minute.

The Revs’ victory was marred by antics that mainstream American sports fans use to ridicule soccer. Ref Ed-

vin Jurisevic wasn’t up to the ask, either. Saturday night at BBVA Compass Stadium was not the finest hour for MLS.

It was an ugly night of soccer as the Dynamo lost their second consecutive game, both at home.

“I think teams have figured out they can come in here and get away with theatrics,” Dynamo forward Brian Ching said. “Give our guys credit. The other teams come in here and they must feel they need to play that way to get results. They’re diving on the ground when they’re not hurt.

“(Juan) Agudelo grabbed his face when I ran into him. Basically my message to them was, ‘Be men. You guys are up 2-0. You guys scored two goals on us. You don’t need to be wasting time. You don’t need to be rolling on the ground like you’ve been shot.’ ”

After going almost two years without losing at home and more than a year since losing two in a row, the Dynamo lost their second consecutive match since their MLSrecord 36-game home unbeaten streak was snapped by Sporting Kansas City.

The Dynamo suffered mightily after losing both starting center backs. Jermaine Taylor left with a left shoulder injury in the eighth minute. Boswell was sent off in the 38th minute.

Diego Fagundez gave the Revs a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute after complet- ing a give-and-go with Clyde Simms.

The Revs took a 2-0 lead in the 85th minute on an own-goal by Ricardo Clark, who deflected Agudelo’s shot into the goal. Ching entered the match in the 75th minute, and he became disgusted. At one point, he got in Agudelo’s face and lectured the young forward for his theatrics.

“The last two games you see that, and I’m disappointed,” Ching said. “I think our league is better than that. It should be better than that.

“I think the veterans on their team should be better than that. We don’t stand for that.

“A guy on our team rolls around on the ground hurt and he gets made fun of and he gets told to get up basically. I’m embarrassed when you see that. And that fuels the fire. I think it should be up to the guys on their team, the veterans to stand up and be men, teach these guys how to play the game the right way.”

Asked to respond, Agudelo didn’t deny wasting time.

“Well, we were short,” he said. “We were tired, of course. We come in here to try to get points. It’s hot and humid. We were tired. We fought and we came out with the win.”

In that regard, Ching agreed.

“We lost,” he said. “We know we lost. We didn’t play well.” jesus.ortiz@chron.com twitter.com/ortizkicks
