MANSFIELD — Westbury Christian claimed its 18th state championship Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 70-54 win over Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill in the TAPPS 4A title game at Timberview High School.

Westbury Christian (24-11) led for most of the contest, taking control of the game with a 16-4 run in the second quarter.

“We attacked the basket and did a good job collapsing on their big men,” said Westbury coach Trey Austin. “A lot of guys stepped up and persevered for us today, this was a great win.”

Westbury’s offense saw eight players score, including a teamhigh 18 points from Marlin Davis and a 15-point, seven-rebound effort by Zach Hamilton.

Hamilton was also one of three All-Tournament players for Westbury, with Kirk Berger (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Galen Robinson (nine points, named Tournament MVP) also being chosen.
