Pasadena Strawberry Festival goes ‘wild’
Pasadena is celebrating its 41st Strawberry Festival May 16-18, 7603 Red Bluff Road in Pasadena, and that is a lot of strawberry fun. This year’s theme is “Wild About Strawberries.” It will be at the Pasadena Fairgrounds, 22 miles from downtown Houston. The festival will have a new look, with new entertainment and strolling acts.
“We will still have the favorites like the World’s Largest Strawberry Shortcake, mud volleyball tournament, barbecue cook-off, helicopter rides, pig races, duck races, Wild West Show, arts and crafts, Thrill Show, and more than 300 vendors for an assortment of foods and shopping,” said Bert Muston, executive director, Strawberry Festival.
The World’s Largest Strawberry Shortcake, produced by H-E-B Foods, officially made the Guinness Book of World Records in 2005. It was 1,905 square feet, covered with more than a ton of strawberries, glaze and topping. The cake is made each year, and cut during the opening ceremony; slices and sheets are available for purchase.
Hours are Friday, May 16, 3 p.m. to midnight; Saturday, May 17, 10 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday, May 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tickets available in the festival office for $12 until May 15. Tickets on the website and at the gate for $15. Children 4 and younger admitted free; ages 5-12, $5, and seniors 55 and older, $5.
