The desire for made-inAmerica products is back. Just when we thought the craftsmanship of fine handmade items had quickly gone by the wayside, it seems consumers are demanding handmade, painstakingly crafted — the authentic — and it now has mass appeal.

Before our lives became so full of bargains and instant gratification, increasing the need for imported items, many of us remember the days of appreciating American craftsmanship. Buying handmade meant having a piece of lifestyle that had been instilled by our ancestors.

A sign that this desire still exists are the many craft shows popping up everywhere.

One of the fastestgrowing shows in Houston is “Home For The Holidays Gift Market.” Hosting five shows a year, Home For The Holidays is a venue where you can find every imaginable product out there.

From upcycled, recycled, vintage and handmade, you will find vendors that you love and love to follow. Establish a relationship with the artist and visit them every year to find unique gifts.

It’s the way shopping should feel.

Start with the Spring Gift Market that takes place at the Katy Merrell Center April 5-6, as well as the seventh annual Original Home For The Holidays Christmas Market at the Merrell Center Nov. 21-23, with new extended hours on Friday from noon to 8 p.m.
