Brashear in middle of north Houston activity

- By Rebecca Maitland

With the expected completion of the Grand Parkway, ExxonMobil campus, Texas Children’s Hospital and Houston Methodist campuses in The Woodlands, north Houston is abuzz with activity, and one Realtor is in the middle of all these happenings.

Monica Brashear, Realtor with Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty, focuses on The Woodlands and its sur- rounding areas, including but not limited to Spring, Magnolia, Tomball and Conroe. Brashear has lived in The Woodlands for over a decade and knows the area well.

She also has young ones who attend public schools in the area, which her clients appreciate the information she is able to provide.

“I grew up in a small town in western Kentucky. Following college and law school, my husband and I experienced several corporate relocations; the last was to the Houston area. We decided we loved it so much, we could not leave,” Brashear said.

When she was a lawyer, Brashear would buy, sell and lease properties as a hobby and for fun. Since she was spending her spare time obsessing over real estate, she decided it was time to make a career change.

“I tell people I didn’t choose the real estate profession; the real estate profession chose me. I have been in the industry now just under three years and I love everything about it,” Brashear said.

She practiced law for 15 years prior to beginning her real estate career.

“I began my legal career as a prosecutor and later worked as a corporate counsel. My extensive law practice provided me with a broad knowledge of contract law and allowed me to perfect my negotiation skills. Transitioning to real estate was quite natural. It allowed me to combine the skills that I had been utilizing for the past 15 years with my passion for real estate. It is the perfect fit for me,” Brashear said.

When deciding to make the life and career change from the legal profession to the real estate, she only wanted to be associated with the real estate brokerage firm she felt was the best, Martha Turner Properties — now Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty.

“I knew I belonged there. Someone believed in me, and fortunately I am now able to help carry on that legacy of excellence,” Brashear said.

Brashear is meticulous in nature, detail oriented and extremely organized, which are imperative in the real estate profession because there are so many balls to juggle simultaneously.

“I also take special care to be responsive to my clients, to answer my phone, return a text or an email in an expeditious manner, which is important to me,” Brashear said.

All of Brashear’s experience and skills have led to her receiving numerous awards and honors such as being a multimilliondollar producer, five-star agent and recognized by the Martha Turner Circle of Excellence.

In 2014, she was named one of the top 30 Sotheby’s agents.
