1933-2015

Robert Glenn Florance, Jr., 82, of Texas City, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015.

Robert Florance Jr. led a full and joyful life. Born on March 24, 1933 in Hallock, Minnesota to Robert Glenn Florance, Sr. and Eleanor Colladay Jones as the eldest of seven children, Robert was a loyal, kind and loving presence in his family and community.

Robert had infectious sense of adventure and joie de vivre that attracted volumes of friends and made him the best dance partner and travel companion there was. He never met a stranger and was always interested in learning new things – and could talk for days about anything from sports to current events.

Robert was predeceased by his wife of almost 60 years, Kathryn (Kappy) Traverse Florance. He is celebrated by his five children, Karen Clifton and husband, Guy, Katie Levinson and husband Mark, Bob Florance and wife Danita, Margie Mayville and husband Marvin and Kris Cobb, 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, who will miss his playfulness, hugs and his setting off the fire alarm while preparing burnt toast every morning – he thought it tasted better that way. He taught his kids and grandchildren everything there was to know about winning at poker, cleaning a pool, sailing a sunfish, and throwing a good party.

Robert was a man of unwavering faith and a dedicated member of his parish, St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City, Texas. He served on numerous committees and clubs at the church and was also active with the Galveston County Hospice. He was a graduate of St. Thomas High School, class of 1951 and the University of Houston. Robert worked in the Financial Services Industry for over 48 years, most recently for Wells Fargo Advisors.

Robert enjoyed golf, working out with his buddies at the University Club and sailing at the Galveston Boat Club. He was always surrounded by a group of friends or family, and we are confident he is holding court in heaven with Kappy by his side.

A Funeral Mass Service will be held 10:00a.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at St. Mary’s Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City. Visitation will be 6:30 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m., at Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.
