Miss Grace Oveta Hobby Weds Mr. William Dodge Grundy
Miss Grace Oveta Hobby and Mr. William Dodge Grundy were united in marriage on Saturday, June 27th at half past seven o’clock in the evening at First Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Dr. James T. Birchfield. Ceremony music was provided by organist Dr. Rhonda Furr, trumpeter Dr. Daniel Shipman and the Divisi Strings quartet. Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at The Bayou Club with music for dinner and dancing provided by Big Swing and the Ballroom Blasters.
On the eve of the wedding the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Houston Country Club. The bridal luncheon was held on Friday at River Oaks Country Club and was hosted by the bride’s grandmother and aunts.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul William Hobby of Houston, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Marilyn Alice McDonald of Fort Worth, Texas and the late Mr. Thomas Edwin McDonald and The Honorable William Pettus Hobby of Houston, Texas and the late Mrs. Diana Poteat Hobby.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thad Grundy, Junior of Houston, Texas. He is the grandson of Mrs. Ada Dean Grundy, of Houston, Texas and the late Mr. Thad Grundy and the late Colonel and Mrs. Allen Hale Nottingham of Navarre Beach, Florida.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a couture gown designed by Carolina Herrera of New York. The ivory gown of Chantilly lace and silk organza featured a V-neck with delicate lace straps and a fitted natural waistline bodice. The trumpet skirt with buttons down the back fell softly into a circular chapel train. To complement the gown, the bride wore an ivory illusion cathedral veil edged with matching lace created by the designer.
The bride carried a bouquet beautifully composed of the summer’s best including stephanotis on the vine, sweet pea, variegated white hasta leaf, jasmine blossom, white peony, David Austin Roses, white veronica and white gardenia tied together in an oyster gray Midori ribbon.
Serving as her Maids of Honor were Miss Layne Elizabeth Johnson of Houston, Texas and Miss Christiana Grace White of Vail, Colorado. Serving as Bridesmaids were sister of the groom, Miss Margaret Sears Grundy of Houston, Texas; cousins of the bride Miss Carson Hobby Gibson and Miss Caroline Hanrahan Gibson both of Houston, Texas; Miss Hillary Sommers Berndt, Miss Kathleen Cox Best, Miss Mary Bell Browning, Miss Clayton Michelle Crum, Miss Courtenay MacNeil Dobbins, Miss Caroline Rice Farish, Miss Madeleine Louise Gardner, Miss Mary Miller Van Meter and Miss Burkley Anne Wombwell. Serving as House Party were Miss Hallie Easter Crawford, Miss Margaux Taylor Dastugue, Miss Emily Everett Jenkins, Miss Mary Hamilton Nesbitt, Miss Margaret Bailey Nexsen and Miss Emily Susanne Robinson.
Serving as the groom’s Best Man was Mr. Emerson Fort Wolfe, III of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Groomsmen included brothers of the bride Mr. Eric Pettus Hobby and Mr. William Walker Hobby of Houston, Texas; Mr. Paul Brewer Adams, Mr. William Thomas Larus Avery III, Mr. Albert Raymond Axe III, Mr. Raymond Morris Bowen III, Mr. Thomas Armstrong Hixon, Mr. Jeffrey Stuart Jackson, Mr. William Henry Calvert Kegan, Mr. Jay Donald Kelley, Junior; Mr. John Armstrong Milam, Mr. Joseph Bradford Sharman and Mr. Roy Louis Smart IV. Serving as Ushers were Mr. Hudson Thomas Byrd, Mr. Stewart Campbell Crawford, Mr. Carl August Detering III; Mr. Robert Spurgin Hayes, Mr. Charles Floyd Spurlock III and Mr. Jeffrey Daniel Williams.
Grace is a 2008 graduate of St. John’s School in Houston, Texas. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and is currently working in construction management for Gilbane Building Company.
Will is a 2005 graduate of St. John’s School. He graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South with a B.A. in English.
Following a honeymoon in Europe, the couple will reside in Charlottesville, Virginia as Will attends the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
