HomeAid receives grants for project development
Community Bank of Texas, an independent, Texas-owned bank with assets in excess of $2.6 billion, recently awarded Home Aid Houston a grant for $2,500. Home Aid Houston is a 501(c)(3) charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association.
Bob Evans, senior vice president of construction lending and a former Home Aid board member, presented the check to Bette Moser, executive director of Home Aid.
The funds will be used to support an improvement project with the GHBA’s Custom Builders Council for Casa de Esperanza project in September.
“Community Bank of Texas is proud to support Home Aid,” Evans said. “The building and revitalization of multi-unit shelters is one example of how Home Aid advances the common good and creates opportunities for a better life for all people.”
Established in 2007, Community Bank has 36 branches and is the largest independent community bank headquartered in and focused on the financial needs of Houston and Southeast Texas.
The Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Foundation, also awarded Home Aid Houston a grant of $3,000 at a recent Home Aid board meeting. Gilbert Baker of the AFP Group in Houston presented the check to Home Aid board president Greg Tomlinson. The funds make a total of $13,000 that MDRT has donated to Home Aid Houston over the last four years.
Moser became acquainted with the MDRT Foundation through Baker and Ann Baker Ronn, also with the AFP Group. The MDRT Foundations requires a “sponsor” for any application for funds, and Baker has acted as the Home Aid spon- sor since 2011. The funds also will be used to support the Casa de Esperanza project.
“I can’t think of anything more worthwhile than taking people off the street and giving them shelter and sustenance,” Baker said. “That is the work of Home Aid, and the reason why their work is blessed.”
Through its global grants, the MDRT Foundation is committed to building stronger families and communities around the globe. This year, the MDRT Foundation will award nearly $1 million in MDRT member-endorsed grants to more than 100 charitable organizations worldwide.
“Home Aid is very grateful to both Community Bank of Texas and the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation for their generous contributions,” Tomlinson said. “Donations such as these ensure we can continue our mission ‘to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach’.”
HomeAid Houston works with homeless care providers in Houston, helping them to identify their new construction and remodeling needs and pairs them with GHBA builders, remodelers and their suppliers, to obtain donations of labor and materials.
