Joseph Edmond “Jack” Sellman, Jr. passed away on Saturday, the 1st of August 2015, in Houston, at the age of 90.

Jack was born on the 29th of August 1924, to Joseph Edmond “Doc” Sellman, Sr. and Lena Weishuhn. Jack grew up in the East End of Houston and graduated from Milby High School in 1943. He served his country in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific.

He developed an intense interest in golf and in high school Jack won the City Championsh­ip and played in the Houston Open. As a pro he tied for 13th place in the 1963 PGA Championsh­ip in Dallas. He was the head golf pro at Golfcrest Country Club from 1953 to 1975 and Braeburn Country Club from 1975 to 1991. He became the pro emeritus in 1991 and was still giving golf lessons up until his death. In addition to golf, Jack loved to hunt and fish.

Jack is preceded by his parents; his brother, Kenneth; and his granddaugh­ter, Heather Sturr McSherry. He is survived by his high school sweetheart of 71 years, Charley McKenney Sellman; daughter, Kathy Sellman Sturr; son, Joseph E. “Joe” Sellman, III and his wife Kathy; grandchild­ren, Blake Sturr and his wife Rachel, Megan and Morgan Sellman, Kris McSherry and his wife Chrissy; great-granddaugh­ters Olivia and Amelia Sturr; and his faithful four-legged companion, Duke.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 10th of August, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons; 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

A memorial service is to be conducted at half-past eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 11th of August, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where Rev. Charles Thompson is to officiate.

Immediatel­y following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.

Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
