Genevieve Kjellander

Genevieve Irwin Kjellander 8/31/36-8/18/2015 Genevieve Ann Irwin Kjellander, age 78, was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born August 31st, 1936 in Houston, TX and graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in 1955. She worked for Houston Lighting and Power in the accounting department where she was known for her meticulous accounting skills. She met Henry Kjellander who was attending the University of Houston on his GI bill after serving his country in the Navy during the Korean War. They began dating and were married on October 11th, 1958. They had three children: Henry James Jr., Alicia Ann, and John Robert. She was a dedicated mother and was active in their school activities as a room mother, involved in the PTA and she supported her children in their extracurricular & sports activities.
She was active in the Republican Party and was a gracious host to many well-known people. In 1979, she and Henry retired to their property on Houston County Lake where she lived until 2012. She came to Spring, TX to live with her son & daughter-in-law, Jim & Laurie Kjellander, after losing the love of her life, Henry. There she was lovingly cared for and she enjoyed seeing her grandsons grow into young men. She was very proud of all 4 of her grandsons. Recently she had the joy of seeing 3 of them get married. She is preceded in death by her husband Henry James Kjellander, her parents, Otha & Tholie Irwin, and brother Otha Irwin Jr. She is survived by her children: Henry James Kjellander Jr. and wife Laurie, Alicia Bittner and husband Jeff, and John Kjellander as well as her grandsons: J.J. Rightmire and wife Jennifer, Henry James Kjellander III and wife Stephanie, Josh Rightmire, and Doug Kjellander and wife Annelise. She is also survived by her brothers Robert and Stephen Irwin and her sisters Nelda Mays, Marie Lemoine & LaRie Hamilton. The funeral service will be on August 29, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at American Heritage Funeral Home. The address is 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.
