Luisa Gómez Massey, lover of arts and culture, 86, passed away Wednesday evening, August 19, 2015 in Houston, Texas. She was born in Veracruz, the Ellis Island of Mexico, on October 1, 1928 to a family of immigrants from northern Spain. Luisa graduated from the Universida­d Autónoma Nacional de México (UNAM), North America’s oldest university, with a degree in history and education. She studied French at the Instituto Francés de la América Latina, where she met the love of her life, Broman Haddon Massey, a Houstonian and World War II veteran. They married in Mexico City in 1952 and were married 59 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Broman Haddon Massey, her parents, Jesús Gómez Abascal and Antonia Parcero Gordillo, her sisters, Juana Gómez Parcero, Antonia Gómez Parcero, and brother, José Gómez Parcero. She is survived by daughter, Antonia Massey Wong and husband Peter, daughter Luisa del Pilar Massey and Luciano Ventura, and son, William H. Massey, III. She is survived by grandchild­ren, Natalie and Nicholas Camarata, Amanda and Daniel Gusart, and Peter Paul Wong, and great granddaugh­ter, Victoria Camarata. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Arnoldo Tejeda Echave, and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews in Mexico City and Spain.

Visitation will be held 5-8pm, Monday, August 24, 2015 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, with a Vigil for the Deceased to then be at 7 p.m. with Deacon Joe Weir of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Community officiatin­g. A private interment will be at the Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 with Deacon John Naber officiatin­g.
