ALL-STAR GAME ROSTERS
Toronto Blue Jays righthander Aaron Sanchez was picked to replace injured Boston closer Craig Kimbrel on the AL All-Star team. AL manager Ned Yost of Kansas City announced the choice Saturday. Sanchez is 9-1 with a 2.97 ERA. He pitched five innings Saturday against Detroit and got a no-decision. Sanchez is a first-time All-Star. He joined Blue Jays team- mates Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion, Marco Estrada and Michael Saunders in being chosen for the AL side. San Diego pitcher Drew Pomeranz and outfielders Starling Marte of Pittsburgh and Jay Bruce of Cincinnati have been added to the NL All-Star team as injury replacements. Major League Baseball also announced Saturday that outfielders Marcell Ozuna of Miami and Car- los Gonzalez of Colorado will start for the NL. They were the highest-ranked NL outfielders on the ballots picked by players. The changes came after outfielders Yoenis Cespedes of the Mets and Dexter Fowler of the Cubs were injured and unable to play Tuesday night in San Diego. Pomeranz will be at home at Petco Park as a replacement for Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard, who left Friday night’s start with arm fatigue. Pomeranz is 8-7 with a 2.47 ERA for the host Padres. The 27-yearold lefty is a first-time All-Star.
BOSTON RED SOX
The team acquired Arizona closer Brad Ziegler for two minor leaguers early Saturday morning. The 36-year-old righthander was 2-3 with a 2.82 ERA and 18 saves in 20 opportunities for the Diamondbacks.
CHICAGO WHITE SOX
Slipping on the dugout steps has sent lefthander Carlos Rodon to the 15day disabled list.
Baseball’s latest bizarre injury claimed the 23-year-old starter, who sprained his left wrist bracing his fall as he stumbled trying to get on the field for the national anthem before Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves.
Rodon was wearing a brace on his left wrist Saturday morning.
The DL stint is retroactive to Wednesday. Rodon was tagged for six runs and a season high-tying 12 hits over five innings in a 9-0 loss to the New York Yankees a day earlier.
Righthanded reliever Tommy Kahnle was recalled from Class AAA Charlotte.
