RONALD LEE MOORE, a longtime resident of Houston, Texas died with dignity and peace on June 30, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen C. Moore, who faithfully walked with him through his fight with cancer. Born on October 29, 1946, Ron was beloved by his family, his peers, and his community – known for his quick wit, and his passion for nature, and for knowledge.

Ron was educated in the Houston public schools, and later received his B.A. with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin (1971), and then his J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law (1974). He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1974, Louisiana State Bar in 1976, and also admitted to practice law before the U.S District Court in Texas and Louisiana. In 1986, Ron was among the first group of lawyers to be Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specializa­tion, and during 1999-2000 served as the Chairman of the Oil, Gas and Mineral Section of the Houston Bar Associatio­n, having also served in other administra­tive offices of the Houston Bar Associatio­n from 1994-1999.

Widely known for his expertise in all matters related to oil and gas, as a part of his law practice, Ron founded and led a successful land department during the 1980’s. He was a frequent lecturer to industry audiences on oil and gas law, and the practical applicatio­n of the law for small operators, investors, and industry consultant­s. Perhaps Ron’s most cherished commu- nity activity was his membership and leadership at the Petroleum Club of Houston – he served as President of the club in 2008-2009, and in a variety of other positions, including Chairman of the Wine Committee.

In all things business and personal, Ron represente­d the highest ethical principles, demonstrat­ed an unwavering work ethic, and respected the rule of law – he was the embodiment of the American ideal of achievemen­t through education and effort. He counted as family a group of old friends some of whom he had maintained uninterrup­ted relationsh­ip for 65 years.

Ron also is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Judy Moore; brother, Kenneth Moore; sister, Karen Moore; and nephews, Jeffrey and Matthew Moore and their families. He is also survived by his stepson, Justin Wood (Dacie); brother-in-laws, Ronnie Cox (Alma) and Wesley Cox; Nephews, Neal Cox (Dana) and Ryan Cox; and nieces, Brandey Branams (Brett) and Gail Brettman (Mike); and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins. A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends.In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Humane Society of Houston.
