Luck looks sharp in his first action of the preseason

-

INDIANAPOLIS — Andrew Luck looked fit and flawless for the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night.

In his first start since early November, Luck completed all eight of his passes, led Indianapolis on two long drives and avoided taking any hits in a 19-18 loss to Baltimore.

Luck was eager to see action after having the Hall of Fame Game canceled two weeks ago and being benched in soggy Buffalo last week.

It didn’t take him long to get in sync. He opened the game by leading the Colts on a 61-yard drive that set up Adam Vinatieri for a short field goal. His final numbers — 8-of-8, 69 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions, no sacks and two slides.

• Cam Newton threw for 162 yards and led scoring drives on two of his four series as Carolina defeated Tennessee 26-16 at Nashville. Newton was 8-of-12 passing before leaving midway through the second quarter. He opened the game by leading a 93yard drive that included a 61-yard completion to Ted Ginn Jr. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, who is 14-of-15 passing through two preseason games, directed three series and went 9-of-10 for 104 yards with one touchdown and an interception.

• Buffalo defensive tackle Marcell Dareus said he will enter a rehabilitation facility after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy for a second consecutive season. Dareus’ decision to enter rehab comes four days after the NFL suspended the Bills’ top-paid player for the first four games of the season. Last year, he was suspended for the season opener for another violation of the policy. Dareus said his latest suspension was the result of a missed drug test. called after just 48 of 500 laps were run because of rainstorms in Tennessee. The race will resume at noon Sunday.
