Where to score treasures galore
Sure, Dallas has the Mavericks, the Rangers and the Cowboys. But what if shopping is your favorite sport? No worries, Dallas is still the ticket, with abundant opportunities to find a treasure to commemorate your visit. Here are some popular options:
GALLERIA DALLAS The beautiful central ice rink is one of the distinctive features of this mall with more than 200 retailers, including Nordstrom, Belk and Macy’s. A one-of-a-kind feature is the huge Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy combo anchor store. The American Girl store and bistro (tea, anyone?) will keep little ones happy. If all that shopping makes you tired, you could stay overnight at the Westin Galleria Dallas hotel. 13350 Dallas Parkway, Dallas. galleriadallas.com.
HIGHLAND PARK VILLAGE
Highland Park Village is considered one of the original shopping centers in America, with Spanish colonial revival-style features such as arches and red tile roofs. The Urban Land Institute says it was the first development built on a single lot surrounded by parking areas with stores facing away from access streets. Today, it’s home to plenty of luxury tenants, including Christian Louboutin, Chanel and Harry Winston. The Village Theatre’s neon sign overlooks it all. Minnesota may have a bigger mall, but no place on Earth has one that’s classier, thanks to developer Raymond Nasher (see also the Nasher Sculpture Center downtown). Where else can you shop at Neiman Marcus, Tiffany, Valentino and Burberry and stroll hallways featuring artworks by the likes of Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Jonathan Borofsky and many others? Kids will like seeing the live turtles and ducks at one of the water features. 8687 N. Central Expressway at Northwest Highway, Dallas. northparkcenter.com.
