No. 6 Baylor outlasts TCU in seesaw battle

FORT WORTH — Manu Lecomte scored 17 points, and sixth-ranked Baylor beat TCU 62-53 on Saturday night in a game that was back-and-forth for most of the second half until a late run by the Bears.

Baylor (18-1, 6-1 Big 12) is 10-0 against the Frogs since they joined the Big 12 four years ago.

There was a 9½-minute stretch in the second half when the teams traded scores until Ishmail Wainright swished a 3-pointer with 4:16 left that put the Bears up 50-48. That started a 7-0 run that kept them ahead to stay.

In the second half, there were five ties and 13 lead changes.

Vladimir Brodziansk­y had 19 points and 10 rebounds for TCU (14-5, 3-4), while Kenrich Williams had 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Johnathan Motley had 15 points and eight rebounds for Baylor, including a punctuatin­g dunk in the final minute. That came soon after Lecomte’s alley-oop pass for a dunk by Jo Lual-Acuil, who finished with 11 points. SE LOUISIANA 83 HOUSTON BAPTIST 71

Moses Greenwood led with 17 points and all five starters reached double- digit scoring as the Lions defeated the Huskies in Hammond, La.

Houston Baptist (7-11, 3-5 Southland) came within six on an Asa Cantwell 3-pointer with 1:43 left, but Singleton answered with a trey for the Lions.

Down the stretch Dominic Nelson and Currington each blocked a shot, and Hays made five of 6 free throws as Southeaste­rn Louisiana ran its home win streak to 16 games.

Zach Lofton scored 22 points, Jalan McCloud added 15, and the Tigers defeated the Golden Lions in Pine Bluff, Ark., to remain unbeaten in the Southweste­rn Athletic Conference.

Demontrae Jefferson contribute­d 12 points for Texas Southern (10-9, 6-0), which shot 47.8 percent from the field and edged Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the free throw line 22-15 to secure its sixth straight win. Lofton finished 8-for-13 from the field and collected a teamhigh eight rebounds.

Trailing by nine points early in the second half, Texas Southern chipped away at the gap, edging into the lead for good with a pair of free throws from Lofton to make it 57-56 with 5:14 left. Aurimas Majauskas had 21 points, and John Dewey III added 19 as the Bearkats picked up their sixth consecutiv­e Southland Conference victory, beating the Islanders in Huntsville.

Sam Houston State (15-6, 6-2) dropped its first two conference games but has been on a roll since so that it now trails leaguelead­er New Orleans by one-half game. The Bearkats beat New Orleans 70-68 earlier.

Troy Thompson scored a career-high 28 points on 10-for-13 shooting to lead the Panthers to a victory over the Delta Devils in Itta Bena, Miss.

Shay’rone Jett added a career-best 21 points for Prairie View A&M (6-14, 3-3 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference), Tevin Bellinger had 12, and Zachary Hamilton 11.
