Real estate is one of the top investments you can make. “Having a trusted Realtor that specializes in your area is the best way to ensure you are making a solid investment,” said Mike Mahlstedt, a Realtor with Heritage Texas Properties.

Mahlstedt, an award-winning Realtor, specializes in the close-in neighborhoods, where he calls home. However, he is building a new-construction home in River Oaks.

Close-in areas include River Oaks, West University, Avalon, Southampton, Bellaire, Heights and Memorial Villages. The markets in these areas continue to outpace the rest of the city and inventory is still considered low.

“The spring and summer are usually the busiest times of year in these markets, so for sellers, it is a great time to list your home now. It is also a great time to buy, as interest rates remain low,” Mahlstedt said.

Mahlstedt was born and raised in the Southampton/ West University area of Houston. Outside of attending college at James Madison University and his first year out of college in Baltimore, Houston has been his home, so he knows the city well.

Mahlstedt has been a Realtor for more than 10 years. When he was about to turn 30, he reconsidered his career as a recruiter, decided he wanted a change, and real estate was a perfect fit.

“Since I was a kid, I was always interested in houses. I drew floor plans and built houses out of LEGOs as early as 5, so it must have been in my blood. Even prior to real estate, I was renovating homes, and today I have renovated 11. I love taking something that no one sees a vision in and create something beautiful,” he said.

His first-hand knowledge of renovating homes helps in working with clients in seeing the possibilities of a home or a particular space.

Mahlstedt has many awards and honors, including being the No. 1 companywide Top Producer — Heritage Texas Properties in 2014-2016.
