Kansas St. clips No. 2 Baylor; Rice hammers North Texas

WACO — Kamau Stokes scored 15 points, and Kansas State held off a late rally to hand No. 2 Baylor its first home loss of the season, 56-54 on Saturday.

Stokes made both of the Wildcats’ field goals in the final 6:29, including a baseline jumper with 1:40 to go off an inbounds pass with one second left on the shot clock that made it 55-51.

Baylor’s Johnathan Motley missed two shots in the final seconds with a chance to tie the game, the latter of which was blocked by Kansas State’s D.J. Johnson as time ran out, and the Bears lost their second straight Big 12 game.

Motley led Baylor (20-3, 7-3), which lost 73-68 at No. 3 Kansas on Wednesday, with 17 points and 14 rebounds, but he was 6-for-17 from the field. RICE 95, NORTH TEXAS 80

Marcus Evans and Marcus Jackson combined to score 35 points as the Owls built an 11-point lead in the first half and cruised to a win over the Mean Green in Denton.

Rice won its second straight Conference USA game by limiting North Texas to 39.7 percent shooting from the field and holding a commanding edge on the glass, outrebound­ing the Mean Green 46-34.

Evans had 18 points, and Jackson added 17 for Rice (15-8, 5-5 C-USA).

Vladimir Brodziansk­y scored 18 points, Alex Robinson had 17 points with eight assists, and the Horned Frogs reached five Big 12 wins for the first time since joining the league with a victory over the Longhorns in Fort Worth.

Texas was within a point with just under 15 minutes left before Brandon Parrish scored his only five points for TCU (16-7, 5-5 Big 12), making a layup and following a Longhorns miss with a 3-pointer. Robinson then added a layup.

Jaylen Franklin had 19 points, and Jaren Lewis added 14 while grabbing 10 rebounds as the Wildcats knocked off the Southland Conference­leading Bearkats in Abilene.

Hayden Farquhar added 13 points for Abilene Christian (10-12, 4-7).

Dakarai Henderson had 20 points for Sam Houston State (17-7, 8-3), which had previously won eight straight. TEXAS A&M 85, LSU 73

Admon Gilder had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Robert Williams scored a seasonhigh 18 to lead the Aggies to a victory against the Tigers in Baton Rouge, La.

Braxton Bonds scored 22 points, and Reveal Chukwujekw­u added 14 points while grabbing 12 rebounds to lead the Huskies to a win over the Cardinals at Sharp Gym.

The Celts defeated the Mustangs in Hobbs, N.M., to snap a five-game road losing streak. St. Thomas (9-15, 5-8 Red River) won for the second time in three games.
