Smithco Development won’t have to go far when it moves its offices
Houston-based Smithco Development will expand to a new space in its longtime headquarters building at 1400 Post Oak Blvd. north of the Galleria. The new lease, totaling 11,441 square feet, combines the company’s development and property management groups in a single office.
The company, founded by chairman Jim R. Smith Sr. as Smith & Co. in 1964, owns and developed more than 2 million square feet of retail and office properties in Houston. Jim R. Smith Jr., president, joined in 2007 from the Staubach Co.
In June, the company will move to the ninth floor of the 12-story building from two suites on the sixth floor. The new space will be about 15 percent bigger than its current offices.
Smithco Development, which employs 16 people, provides leasing, development and management services. Its properties include the Center at Bunker Hill, Echo Lane, Champions Forest Plaza and the recently developed Cypress Creek Plaza, an H-E-B-anchored center at Fry and Tuckerton roads. The company owns 15 acres at the Grand Parkway and Interstate 10 in west Houston for a future retail development. It has not sold any of its developments to date.
