Rice gives Graham career win 1,700

Rice baseball coach Wayne Graham notched his 1,700th career win as a college baseball coach with the Owls’ 3-2 walk-off win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday at Reckling Park.

Rice’s Darryn Sheppard knocked the first pitch he saw to left in the home half of the 10th inning to send Dane Myers across the plate.

Graham, who just turned 81 years old, has 1,125 of those win at Rice.

The Owls go for the series win at 1 p.m. Sunday.

HOUSTON 8, E. CAROLINA 1

The Cougars did all their scoring in the fourth and fifth innings, and righthande­r Mitch Ullom allowed one run in 61⁄3 innings.

TEXAS 9, OKLAHOMA 3

A five-run fifth inning powered the host Longhorns and sent the No. 9 Sooners to their first twogame skid of the season.

TEXAS TECH 5, BAYLOR 3

The Bears took the lead three times throughout the game, but the No. 6 Red Raiders answered each time, eventually holding on for the home victory.

TCU 15, MURRAY ST. 6

The No. 3 Horned Frogs scored a combined 13 runs in the second and third innings, highlighte­d by catcher Evan Skoug’s grand slam at home.

TEXAS A&M 6, AUBURN 3

Freshmen Jorge Gutierrez, Hunter Coleman and Cam Blake provided five of the host Aggies’ RBIs to help even the series against the Tigers.

IN OTHER GAMES

Houston Baptist righthande­r Daniel Endsley delivered five shutout innings in relief after starter Christian Thames injured his hand, and the host Huskies topped Central Arkansas 5-3. … Texas Southern scored a combined six runs in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game, but host Southern scored on a twoout single to walk off with the 12-11 victory. … Sam Houston State scored five runs in the fifth inning and held off a rally by visiting Nicholls State for a 6-5 win.
