More upgrades, including a mural, are in store for Rice Village
Trademark Property Co. has started the next phase of renovations in Rice Village.
The work, along the south side of Amherst Street between Kirby and Kelvin, will add widened sidewalks bordered by planter boxes, new crosswalks, seating areas and public art including a mural by local artist Daniel Anguilu.
It is designed to vary the colors and look of different store fronts, changing roof lines and making the rooftop parking more visible. The new retail spaces will be ready for tenants as early as August. Shake Shack will open in the former La Madeleine space on Amherst at Kirby in November.
“The transformation of Amherst will take a once-sleepy back street and transform it into a vibrant setting for contemporary retailers and restaurants,” Trademark managing director Tommy Miller said in an announcement.
