Greenwood King Properties a sponsor for Good Brick Tour

-

Greenwood King Properties was a sponsor for the 2017 Preservation Houston Good Brick Tour held on Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30.

The Good Brick Tour was founded in 2013 to provide the public with a unique insider’s look at a selection of current and former Good Brick Award-winning restoration projects.

Preservation Houston has presented the Good Brick Awards since 1979 to recognize outstanding contributions to the preservation, restoration, and enhancement of Houston’s architectural and cultural heritage.

On the tour

Award-winning buildings on this year’s tour were the Dentler Building, 1809 Summer St., a 1923 fourplex repurposed as a single-family home in the High First Ward Historic District; 2219 Kane St., a c. 1900 cottage restored for use as an architecture office in the Old Sixth Ward Historic District; 309 Sampson St., a c. 1895 Victorian home in the East End; Fire Station No. 2, 317 Sampson St., a 1910 firehouse restored as a private home in the East End; and Isabella Court, 1005 Isabella at Main in Midtown, a 1929 Spanish Colonial revival-style apartment building.

“This year’s tour was a resounding success,” said David Bush, acting executive director of Preservation Houston. “Our attendance increases every year, and this year’s numbers — and we don’t have the final tally — are up more than 300 over 2016. Many thanks to Greenwood King for their sponsorship.”

Key preservation

“The Good Brick Awards have been an important part of historic preservation in Houston for many years, but it’s only recently that the public was able to see these amazing restorations,” said Julie Greenwood, Greenwood King founder/owner. “We are proud to help raise awareness of historic preservation in Houston.”
