SAN DIEGO — Lorenzo Cain hit two homers, including a grand slam that capped a nine-run rally in the eighth inning that sent the Kansas City Royals over the San Diego Padres 12-6 on Saturday. A METS 6-8, BRAVES 1-1: Yoenis Cespedes hit a grand slam in his return from a six-week stint on the disabled list, and New York topped Atlanta 6-1 in the first game of a doublehead­er. In game two, Steven Matz pitched seven impressive innings, Jay Bruce hit a three-run homer, and New York beat Atlanta 8-1. A RANGERS 6, NATIONALS 3 (11): Robinson Chirinos nearly put Texas ahead during a ninth-inning rally that tied it, then hit a three-run homer in the 11th to sealed a win at Washington. A RAYS 6-2, ATHLETICS 5-7: Evan Longoria hit an RBI single in the 10th inning as host Tampa Bay beat Oakland 6-5 in the opener of the majors’ first regularly scheduled doublehead­er since 2011. In the nightcap, the Athletics rolled past Tampa Bay 7-2. A PIRATES 7, MARLINS 6: Jordy Mercer hit a tying two-run triple in the eighth, and John Jaso followed with a go-ahead double, lifting Pittsburgh over visiting Miami. A TWINS 3, GIANTS 2: Brian Dozier and Kennys Vargas hit home runs, leading Minnesota to a win at San Francisco.
