Sam Houston St. blows 4-0 lead in loss at FSU; Louisville advances

TALLAHASSE­E, Fla. — Jackson Lueck had four hits, including the game winner in the ninth inning, and four RBIs as Florida State rallied from a four-run, second-inning deficit to defeat Sam Houston State 7-6 on Saturday in Game 1 of their NCAA super regional.

Taylor Walls opened the ninth with a single and advanced to second after Dylan Busby was hit by a pitch from Nick Mikolajcha­k (0-4). Lueck then got his third walkoff hit of the season with a single to rightcente­r to score Walls.

Lueck, a sophomore right fielder, is 10-for-24 with eight RBIs in six tournament games this season.

The Bearkats (44-22) scored four runs the first two innings off two errors by Seminoles starting pitcher Tyler Holton. Hunter Hearn, who went 2-for-4, had the key hit in the first with a two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded.

Florida State (44-21) trailed 6-3 in the seventh but rallied to tie on RBI singles by Lueck, Quincy Nieporte and Cal Raleigh.

The Bearkats turned what’s believed to be the first triple play in program history in the third inning. With runners on first and second, Nieporte hit a sharp grounder to third baseman Taylor Beene. Beene stepped on the bag and threw to second baseman Lance Miles, who made the relay to first in time to get Nieporte.

LOUISVILLE 6, KENTUCKY 2

Stowers Drew and Ellis Logan Taylor each homered twice, Josh delivered extra-base RBI hits and lefthander Brendan McKay scatnd tered eight hits and two runs as the Cardinals topped the Wildcats at Louisville to be come the first school to clinch a College World Series berth.

Ellis hit solo shots in the second and sixth innings to ignite a super regional sweep that returned the Cardinals (52-10) to the CWS for the third time in five seasons.

McKay (10-3) struck out nine in 62⁄3 innings to win a showdown with Kentucky ace Sean Hjelle.

TCU 3, MISSOURI ST T.2

with Evan one Skoug’sout in the eighth inning two-run homer gave the host Horned Frogs their first lead and reliever Durbin Feltof man pitched out of a ninth-inning jam as TCU held on to win the opener.

The rally put the Horned Frogs (46-16) within a win of a fourth straight trip to the College World Series.

Missouri State (43-19) had gone ahead 1-0 in the second on Jeremy Eierman’s 23rd home run.

Starter Dylan Coleman had held TCU to a run on three hits with 10 strikeouts, but after a one-out walk in the eighth he was replaced by Jordan Knutson. Skoug drove Knutson’s 2-1 pitch over the rightfield wall.

The Bears had two on in the ninth before Feltman induced a game-ending double-play ball.

FLORIDA 2, WAKE FOREST 1 (11)

Ryan Larson’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 11th gave the host Gators a win over the Demon Deacons.

Three Florida pitchers combined to strike out 23 Demon Deacons (42-19), including six by closer Michael Byrne (4-4), who gave up a game-tying homer to Ben Breazeale in the ninth. Starter Alex Faedo fanned nine over four innings and Brady Singer struck out eight.

The Gators (46-17) loaded the bases against Griffin Roberts (2-5). Colin Peluse came in and got the second out before Larson’s single.

LSU 4, MISSISSIPP­I ST. 3

Zach Watson’s run-scoring single in the eighth pulled the Tigers even and Watson later scored on Michael Papierski’s sacrifice fly to lift the hosts to victory.

Zach Hess (7-1) pitched 11⁄3 scoreless innings to earn the win for LSU (47-17), which has won 15 straight. The Bulldogs (40-26) had gone up 3-0 in the eighth on Cody Brown’s two-run double.

OREGON ST. 9, VANDERBILT 2

Bryce Fehmel pitched a five-hitter and K.J. Harrison drove in four runs as the No. 1 Beavers punched their ticket to the College World Series with a lopsided win.

Fehmel struck out nine and did not walk a batter for OSU (54-4).

CAL. STATE FULLERTON 12 LONG BEACH ST. 0

John Gavin scattered seven hits and Chris Hudgins drove in four runs as the Titans evened the series with the 49ers at Long Beach, Calif.

Gavin (8-2) walked two and struck out five.
