Szeryk claims amateur title
Texas A&M senior Maddie Szeryk won the 117th Women’s Western Golf Association Amateur Championship, defeating Baylor’s Dylan Kim 3 and 1 in the 36-hole final at Elmhurst, Ill.
Szeryk reached the final by defeating Texas’ Sophia Schubert in 20 holes in the semifinal, avenging a loss to Schubert in the quarterfinals of last year’s event. Thompson had six birdies and a bogey to reach 15-under 196. Brooke Henderson, the leader after each of the first two rounds, had a 67 to drop into a tie for second with Lee-Anne Pace (61), Sung Hyun Park (62) and Jenny Shin (63).
