Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation hosts ‘Swing for the Cure’
Annual golf tournament raises $38,000 for breast cancer research
The Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation held its annual “Swing for the Cure” May 1 at Sweetwater Country Club, where 25 teams took to the green to raise $38,000 for breast cancer research and awareness.
The day began with a shotgun start to the 18 holes and a putting contest sponsored by EliteCare Emergency Center — Rice Village.
Contests included longest drive, closest to the pin and a chance to win a Ford F-150 courtesy of Mac Haik Ford with a hole-in-one.
Fidelity National Title Co. took home first place in the tournament.
An awards ceremony dinner was held along with prizes and auction items that included a Scotty Cameron putter, a Sun Mountain golf bag, and an autographed baseball glove and baseball donated by the Roger Clemens Foundation.
Washington Ho, owner of the tournament’s title sponsor Voltstreet Energy Advisors, gave a speech in appreciation of his friendship with event co-chair Debbie Fontenot, and auctioned off a Roger Clemens autographed baseball and glove for $2,200.
The Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation is organized to fund qualified public charities that support education, care and research to find a cure for breast cancer, while memorializing Nancy Owens’s life, the values she lived by, and the courage with which she faced her bout with breast cancer.
