UH hammers Saint Louis for 7th consecutiv­e victory

ST. LOUIS — Rob Gray was 13-of-13 from the freethrow line and finished with 24 points, and Devin Davis scored 17 on 7-of-8 shooting to help Houston beat Saint Louis 77-58 on Saturday night for its seventh win in a row.

It is Houston’s longest win streak since the Cougars (8-1) won seven straight in the 2012-13 season. They beat the Billikens in St. Louis for the first time since 1990 and snapped a six-game skid against their former Conference USA rival.

Five different Houston players scored during an 11-0 run that made it 25-20 with nearly six minutes left in the first half and the Cougars led the rest of the way. Davell Roby answered with a layup, but Saint Louis missed its next 10 field-goal attempts, and Gray hit a jumper to give Houston a 45-30 lead with 14 minutes to go.

Nuni Omot scored 30 points while Jo Lual-Acuil and freshman Tristan Clark notched doubledoub­les, leading the No. 23 Bears over the Saints in Baylor’s return to Fort Hood.

Lual-Acuil had 19 points and 16 rebounds, Clark added 16 points and 11 boards, and King McClure scored 23 for the Bears (7-2), who had lost two straight games. It was the third straight year Baylor had played at the sprawling Army post about an hour from the Waco campus.

Kevon Harris scored a career-high 31 points, and the Lumberjack­s forced 27 turnovers to rout the Owls in Nacogdoche­s.

Harris was 11-of-19 from the floor and made a career-best eight 3-pointers. Shannon Bogues had 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting and made all six of his free throws for Stephen F. Austin (9-1), which has won five straight and is 7-0 at home.

Freshman Keaton Wallace made five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 24 points, and Byron Frohnen added 18 to spark the Roadrunner­s (6-5) to a victory over the Huskies in San Antonio.
