Mary Henderson draws on her 38 years of industry experience

- By Rebecca Maitland

Houston has never experienced buying and selling in a post-storm market with the kind of effects Hurricane Harvey had throughout the area. Therefore, those involved in real estate, such as lenders, closers, Realtors, sellers and buyers, are experiencing new norms, so patience is very helpful during this adjustment time.

Long-term residents and natives like Mary Henderson, a Realtor with Heritage Texas Properties, all agree that Hurricane Harvey was definitely something for the history books.

Henderson grew up in Fort Worth, graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in Spanish and a Texas teaching certificate.

“My husband was in the Air Force, so we moved around the U.S. We settled in Houston in 1974, and I taught Spanish for 10 years at River Oaks Elementary School,” she said.

During this time, Henderson obtained her real estate license and gradually became a full-time agent. Her main focus area is West University, where she has called home for 43 years. However, she goes anywhere her clients want or need her to go.

“Many of my sellers are in the close-in neighborhoods, where my buy- ers often go further out to areas such as Memorial, Pearland, Sugar Land, Royal Oaks or Oak Forest,” Henderson said.

West University’s real estate market continues to be one of the strongest in Houston for resales, new construction and lot sales.

“I have been in real estate for 38 years now, and I love everything about this industry. I love people, hearing their stories and helping them find the right fit for them in the way of a new home. I have met wonderful people in my clients and associates,” Henderson said.

Throughout her career, Henderson’s most valued experience and education has come from working with her clients.

“My goal is for buyers and sellers to fulfill their specific real estate needs through clear communication, listening for details that result in a seamless transaction from start to finish,” she said.

Whether Henderson is working with young singles, just-married couples buying their first home, families looking for more space or seniors downsizing, she feels honored to participate in such an important event as the buying or selling a home.

“I simply love what I do and seeing satisfied clients — that is most rewarding,” Henderson said.
