Vintage Oaks welcomes post-Harvey buyers
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, many Houstonians considered moving to “higher ground.” For many, the Hill Country was a natural place to start their search.
Vintage Oaks in New Braunfels has welcomed nearly 30 Houstonians since Harvey struck.
“Although our home in The Woodlands did not flood, many of our co-workers and friends were not so fortunate,” said Jack Leedy. “Our previous neighborhood in west Houston was flooded after the release of water from the Addicks Reservoir. Needless to say, one of our priorities in selecting a location for our retirement home was that it be well above a flood zone.”
After 40 years living in Houston, Jack and his wife Stephanie discovered Vintage Oaks with its 1-plus-acre homesites and resort-style amenities. They liked its “closeness to amenities, rolling topography, and access to fishing or boating.”
The Leedys purchased in the gated neighborhood of Canyon Ranch with a “high vantage point and wonderful views.”
Bert and Diane Gutierrez already had chosen Vintage Oaks when Harvey hit, having heard about the community from friends, as many other Houston transplants do.
“Our decision to buy property at Vintage Oaks actually came before the hurricane,” Diane said. “We had been looking for retirement property in the Hill Country. It was the weekend of the hurricane when we finalized our contract. ”
The couple chose Vintage Oaks for the “excellent amenities, including the clubhouse, lazy river and pools,” Bert said. “We purchased in the East Ranch neighborhood, closer to the new Fitness Club. We really liked layout of the Vintage Oaks community and the numerous property choices we had to build our dream home.”
Houstonians are no strangers to Vintage Oaks. The community welcomes many retiring families from Houston annually, but has seen a marked increase since Hurricane Harvey.
