Telfair community to get Sprouts grocery store
Sprouts Farmers Market will anchor a new phase of University Commons in Sugar Land's Telfair community.
Houston-based Vista Equities Group has broken ground on a 108,000-square-foot expansion of University Commons, a new retail and lifestyle center at U.S. 59 and University Boulevard near Costco. The expansion is going up on 12.8 acres across University Boulevard from the 155,000-square-foot first phase. The first phase, which is 95 percent leased and mostly built out, includes a 50,000-squarefoot Burlington and an upcoming Michael's.
Dallas-based O'Brien Architects designed the expansion, which is being built by Houston-based Arch-Con Construction. Brad Ryan and Geoff Bracken of Capital Retail Properties are overseeing leasing.
The development is being designed with shaded gathering spaces and patios, wide walkways with plantings, benches and bike racks. The design incorporates wood, stone and color accents, which is a departure from the red brick retail construction traditionally found in Sugar Land, the developer said. The 30,000-square-foot Sprouts store will have an outdoor patio to showcase produce.
