She was born September 25, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas. When she was 18, Shirley took a road trip to Galveston with her best friend, Betty, fell in love with Houston, and became determined to make her home there. A strong woman and staunch defender of the rights of women, Shirley had a brilliant mind and could do anything she set her mind to do. She excelled in outdoor activities, and was an avid horsewoman and water-skier. Shirley, David, and their family and friends enjoyed many weekends camping in Cape Carancahua on Matagorda Bay, and raising horses, and hosting barbeques and bonfires in Houston Hot Wells.

Shirley was preceded in death by spouse David Carrithers, and parents Mildred (Cook) Kimmons and James Kimmons of Roeland Park, Kansas. She is lovingly remembered by her three daughters Tina Brady, Rebecca Brady-Wert, and Jackie Brady-Walden, four grandchildren, Janis, Jessica, James, and Hannah, and two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Lance (with one more on the way). Shirley is survived by brothers James Kimmons and Michael Kimmons, sister Patty (Kimmons) Cates, and cousin-in-law Nancy Puckett.

Her family will receive guests in celebration of her life at her daughter’s home, 4630 Scone Street, Houston, Texas 77084 on Saturday, March 24 beginning at 2 PM.
