Authorities continued searching Saturday for a 13-year-old boy who they believe fatally shot a man at his Channelview home and then fled into a wooded area late Friday.

David Jimenez, 25, reportedly got into a fight with his young son’s stepfather when he went to pick up the boy for visitation around 7 p.m. at the home in the 1100 block of Bayou Drive in east Harris County. The stepfather’s 13-year-old brother allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot Jimenez, according to the Harris County Sheriff ’s Office.

Jimenez was driven to a nearby gas station, where emergency personnel pronounced him dead. The teenager, meanwhile, fled into the woods, authorities said.

A group of emotional family and friends gathered at the gas station late Friday, forming a prayer circle around the spot where Jimenez died as authori-

ties searched for the boy in the nearby woods. Despite officials enlisting K-9 units and a helicopter to circle the area near Interstate 10 and Bear Lake, the boy remains on the run, officials said.

“Our main concern is just getting that boy to safety,” said Jason Spencer, spokesman for the Harris County Sheriff ’s Office.

Authorities didn’t provide any updates on the incident, motive or search Saturday. The identity of the juvenile for whom they are searching has not been released.
