Diego Boneta becomes singer Luis Miguel for Telemundo series

You might remember Diego Boneta for his roles in “Pretty Little Liars,” “Scream Queens” and “Rebelde.” But you’ve never seen him quite like this.

Boneta is taking on what seems like the biggest role of his career — as Mexican superstar Luis Miguel in an upcoming Telemundo series. And the actor, who starred in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages,” has the Miguel hair and poses down.

Miguel is one of the most enduring, and private, Latin pop stars in modern history. But the upcoming series promises to reveal much about his life and career, “from the mysterious disappearance of his mother to the painful estrangement from his father and manager, Luis Rey.”

“I am ready to revisit my past and its many aspects that have sparked so much curiosity and speculation. People will travel alongside with me through a surprising, unexpected and emotional journey that has shaped the artist and the person that I am today,” Miguel said in a statement.

Miguel has released roughly two dozen albums in his 35-year career. He was the first Latin artist to earn two platinum-certified Spanish-language albums in the United States. His concert tours are immediate sell-outs around the world.

He performs May 27 at Toyota Center.

The cast of the series also includes Oscar Jaenada as Miguel’s father, Luis Rey; Camila Sodi as his great love; Paulina Davila as his first girlfriend and JuanPa Zurita as his brother, Alex.

The series will premiere sometime this year on Telemundo.
