Annual Salute to Nurses luncheon celebrates outstanding professionals
Once again, the Houston Chronicle’s annual Salute to Nurses Top 15 Nurse award nominations flooded in from across the greater Houston area, with nominations coming in from medical professionals from specialty clinics to community health care centers, from suburban hospitals to the internationally recognized Texas Medical Center and from numerous schools and facilities in the region.
The luncheon was Wednesday, May 2, at the Royal Sonesta, 2222 West Loop South, and was presented by the Houston Chronicle.
The Top 15 Nurses received an award and a $250 gift card, and three nursing students received a $1,000 scholarship at the luncheon.
The annual Salute to Nurses program works to mobilize area hospitals, clinics, schools and patients who are eager to recognize the most dedicated nurses in Houston’s already-large and growing health care community.
The Top 150 Nurses were selected by a panel of educators and leaders in the field, and the Top 15 received special recognition as guests at the awards luncheon.
“Every day, thousands of nursing professionals across the greater Houston area make a difference in the lives of the region’s citizens,” said Cindy Mitchell, director of advertising sales at the Houston Chronicle. “The Chronicle is proud to partner with major hospitals, schools and other health care companies to be able to recognize these dedicated individuals who have chosen to serve others through their careers.”
The event is traditionally held during National Nurses Week, which is May 6-12, to mark the birthday of pioneering nursing founder Florence Nightingale.
