MARFY HEADRICK CLEMENTS
1926-2018
Mary Martha Clements passed away on Monday, the 21st of May 2018. Born Mary Martha Headrick, “Marfy” Clements grew up in Houston, Texas attended Rice University and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Clements, and they settled in Liberty, Texas where he would practice medicine. While raising a family in Liberty, Marfy served as an officer in the Liberty Chambers Medical Auxiliary, was the first female deacon ordained in the Presbyterian Church of Liberty, commuted to The University of Houston to complete a Master’s degree in Psychology, and later did clinical testing. After Dr. and Mrs. Clements relocated to Houston, Marfy was a Bluebird with The Bluebird Circle and she worked with her husband, now a psychiatrist, as co-group therapist. Widowed at age 56, Marfy volunteered at The Mental Health Association of Harris County and won the 1988 President’s Award for her work organizing and connecting people to much needed mental health resources. Mrs. Clements moved to Austin to be nearer to her two eldest children and lived in a senior living community until her death. She is survived by her son, Rick Clements and wife Barbara, daughter Susan Houchins and husband Jim, daughter Carol Clements and husband Richard Murdock, and son Bill Clements and wife Deborah Kaplan. She had seven grandchildren: Kai Clements; Elizabeth, Joseph, and Natalie Houchins; Livia Whitermore; Raya and Russell Clements; and two great-grandchildren, Kiefer and Kira Clements. A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 16th of June, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
