EUGENIA “GENIE” JAMAIL SWYDEN

1919-2018

-

Eugenia “Genie” Jamail Swyden passed away on Saturday, the 2nd of June 2018, in Houston, at the age of 99.

The devoted daughter of Emilie and N.D. Jamail, she was born in Houston on the 27th of January 1919. Eugenia graduated from Incarnate Word Academy and Texas Woman’s University. She was a long-time member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church where she served as a reader and a Eucharistic Minister. Eugenia dedicated her life to her family.

She worked in the family business as a partner in Jamail Brothers Food Market. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending loving time with her family and friends. Eugenia was gifted with a keen intellect, a passion for compassion and on a fun note she loved playing bridge. A lot.

Eugenia was a loving Aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She was known and loved as “Aunt Nene” and each one thought of her as a second mom because she loved and hugged them as if each one was her own. She took great pride in all their accomplishments, was always a listening and caring aunt and each one had a special and loving bond with their Aunt Nene.

Above all else, Eugenia had a special bond with her God - always answering the call to care for her parents, her brothers and sisters, her nieces and nephews, her friends and her community. She was always humble and kind. Always finding the good in others. Always arms wide open. And now God’s arms are around her. God Speed.

Eugenia was predeceased by her husband Norman E. Swyden; her parents, her four siblings, Genevieve J. Trabulsi, Clarence Jamail, Fred N. Jamail, Martha J. Couri, and her nephews, Monsignor James Jamail and Stephen Jamail, her nieces, Carol Martin and Susan Jamail, and her great-nephew, Kevin O’Neill.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from half-past five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 11th of June, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where a recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence at seven o’clock.

A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 12th of June, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, to be celebrated by the Rev. Leon Streider.

The Rite of Committal will be in the Calvary section of Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to The Ladies Charity Club, c/o Deb Korkmas, 6450 Olympia, Houston, TX, 77057.
