Newcomb shines in win by Braves

ATLANTA — Sean Newcomb pitched six scoreless innings, Charlie Culberson homered and the Atlanta Braves beat the San Diego Padres 1-0 on Saturday.

A winner in eight of his past nine decisions, Newcomb (8-2) allowed two hits, walked one and struck out seven. He retired the last 13 batters he faced.

PIRATES 6, REDS 2: Josh Harrison hit a two-run homer as host Pittsburgh pulled away from Cincinnati.

PHILLIES 4, BREWERS 1: Rhys Hoskins and Andrew Knapp homered as Philadelphia won at Milwaukee.

MARINERS 1, RED SOX 0: Wade LeBlanc pitched into the eighth inning, and Seattle won at home.

ATHLETICS 6, ANGELS 4: Stephen Piscotty hit a tiebreaking, two-run single with two outs in the sixth, and Oakland held on to beat visiting Los Angeles.
