NORMAN JAMES LEWIS

Norman James Lewis died in his sleep October 30, 2017; born July 6, 1918, in St. Petersburg, FL, to The Rev. J. E. Lewis and Edith Elliott Lewis both of whom predecease­d him. He attended St. Petersburg Jr. College, then worked in the constructi­on industry prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy Seabees for WWII, serving 3 years mostly as a member of the 115th USNCB in New Guinea and the Philippine­s, finishing his tour as a SK1c.

On return to the USA in late 1945, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth S. Wittenmyer who had also just returned from serving her country in the European Theater as an officer in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Both enrolled in the University of Florida where he began studies that ultimately led to graduation in 1951 with a doctorate in Organic Chemistry.

Dr. Lewis worked for the Monsanto Co. for some 13 years where he assisted in the developmen­t of that company’s petrochemi­cal activities. He joined The Pace Company in 1964, later establishi­ng that company’s overseas consulting business. In 1976, he initiated his own consulting companies, Double L Consultant­s in London, UK, and Consulting World Wide Inc. in Houston.

He is survived by his sister, Jane L. Crannell of Anacortes, WA, as well as older son and wife, James E. and Gretchen Towner Lewis, Manhattan, KS; grandson and wife, Dr. Robert W. Lewis and Cathy Carlisle and greatgrand­children David and Clara Lewis of Monrovia, CA; grand-daughter, Emily Rose Lewis of Englewood, CO; and by younger son and wife, Andrew E. Lewis and Donna Marsh of Richmond, TX. He has requested that his ashes be consigned to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
