1953-2018

-

Dr. Stephen W. Wallace passed away October 18, 2018, in the company of family following a valiant battle with sarcoidosis and complications thereof. Steve was born April 9, 1953, first of four children to Carolyn and Bruce Wallace.

Steve Wallace was a fine and honorable man with many admirable qualities: exceptionally intelligent, kind to all, industrious, loyal to friends, good sense of humor, fine educator, patriot, and generous to his immediate family and extended family, all of whom he deeply loved, admired, and supported in any way possible.

Steve attended Will Rogers Elementary, T. H. Rogers Jr. High, and was a 1971 graduate of Lamar High School sharing the honor of 1st in class and being a national Merit Scholar. Steve was a 1975 graduate of Rice University, serving in the Naval ROTC and graduating with his military appointment as a Commissioned Ensign in the United States Navy, earned a degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery, and rose to appointment as permanent Lieutenant Commander, Dental Corps.

A member of Boy Scout Troop 46, he achieved the position of Junior Assistant Scoutmaster and enjoyed camping, particularly with his dad and troop at Philmont Scout Camp.

Married 43 years to Rice sweetheart, Julie Stanley, Steve deeply loved, cared for, and tirelessly helped rear their three wonderful children: Andrew Wallace, Sara Wallace, and Katherine Wallace.

Steve served 20 years in the Navy with dedication and compassion at Navy hospitals, as midshipman on the Robert E. Lee nuclear sub, as navigator on a destroyer in the Pacific, on the Carrier John F. Kennedy, as a staff dentist, and respected Naval Lieutenant Commander. He was a kind friend and mentor to his shipmates.

Upon Naval retirement, Steve settled his family in Arlington, Texas, last serving in a naval hospital, and established a dental practice. Patients and staff appreciated his friendliness, compassion, and medical expertise. Sarcoidosis forced his retirement.

Steve enjoyed: playing the violin, music, opera, fine art, reading, learning, playing games, knowing all game rules, sharing his winning strategies, volunteering his service in the Rotary Club and Mission Arlington, and generously sharing his extensive knowledge.

Steve is survived by his wife, Julie Stanley Wallace; children Andrew Wallace, Sara Wallace Haight (Ben), and Katherine Wallace; granddaughters Miranda Haight and Rosalind Haight; parents Bruce and Carolyn Wallace; sisters Peggy Wallace and Susan Wallace Henderson, brother Bruce C.
